Brittle Fracture Failure of Composite (Non- Ceramic) Insulators
نویسنده
چکیده
In this work, additional input is provided into the ongoing discussion on the mechanisms, causes and remedies of brittle fracture failures of composite (non-ceramic) insulators. This has been done partially to complement the recently published article on this topic entitled “ IEEE Task Force Report: Brittle Fracture in Non-Ceramic Insulators” [1]. At first, the most important characteristics of the brittle process are described in this study. Then, two important examples of insulator failures by brittle fracture are shown and their causes explained. Finally, several recommendations on how to avoid brittle fracture in service are presented to supplement those already given in [1]. This work should improve the current state of knowledge on brittle fracture of composite insulators as well as provide a potential means of avoiding it in-service.

Fracture Resistance and Failure Mode of Endodontically Treated Premolars Restored with Different Adhesive Restorations
Introduction: The restoration of endodontically treated teeth is a topic that has been studied extensively but it is still a challenge for dental practitioners. The aim of this study was to evaluate fracture resistance, fracture patterns and fracture location of endodontically treated human maxillary premolars restored with direct and indirect composite resin and ceramic restoration. Methods: E...
متن کاملFracture Behavior of Advanced Ceramic
Microstructural, mechanical, and thermal-shock behavior of hot-gas candle fiters obtained from different manufacturers have been evaluated. These filters include both monolithic ceramic and composite materials. Based on the results obtained so far, composite filters perform better than monolithic ceramic filters in a thermal-shock environment. During thermal-shock testing, the monolithic cerami...
متن کاملFracture Mechanism of CoCrMo Porous Nano-composite Prepared by Powder Metallurgy Route
The main aim of this research was to find the mechanism for the failure of the CoCrMo porous nano-composite by characterizing microstructural changes and fractured surface after compression test. For this purpose, porous nano-composites were prepared with the addition of bioactive glass nano-powder to Co-base alloy with 22.5% porosity by the combination of space-holder and powder metallurgy tec...
متن کاملAn Investigation of Brittle Fracture of Composite Insulator Rods in an Acid Environment with Either Static or Cyclic Loading
The effect of static and cyclic loading conditions on the stress corrosion cracking of unidirectional glass reinforced polymer (GRP) rods used in composite high voltage insulator has been investigated. A series of stress corrosion experiments have been performed on unidirectional E-glass/modified polyester composite rods. The rods have been subjected to mechanical tensile static and cyclic stre...
متن کاملTemperature Effect on Creep and Fracture Behaviors of Nano-SiO2-composite and AlSi12Cu3Ni2MgFe Aluminum Alloy
In the presented article, the temperature effect was studied on creep properties and fracture behaviors of AlSi12Cu3Ni2MgFe aluminum-silicon alloys, unreinforced and reinforced with SiO2 nano-particles. For such objective, standard specimens were fabricated by gravity casting and stir-casting methods, for aluminum alloys and nano-composites, respectively. Then, force-controlled creep...
